What is Atopic Dermatitis?
Probiotics for Atopic Dermatitis
There were reports about probiotics showing their effect on Atopic dermatitis. Bifidobacterium lactis Bb-12 and Lactobacillus GG showed a significant improvement on the skin condition of patients. The SCORAD (Scoring atopic dermatitis) of the B. lactis Bb-12 group had decreased to 0 (0±3.8) and went down to 1 (0.1±8.7) in the Lactobacillus GG group, while it was 13.4 (4.5±18.2) in the unsupplemented group. L. plantarum CJLP133 was also confirmed to be beneficial in the treatment of pediatric AD (1).
The administration of a probiotic mixture containing L. acidophilus DDS-1, B. lactis UABLA-12, and fructo-oligosaccharide was associated with a significant clinical improvement in children with AD (2). Recently, researchers reported that the supplementation of a probiotic mixture of Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactobacillus fermentum was effective in children with AD (3).
